At only four hours driving from Venice or two hours flight from Munich lies a true oasis of crystal clear Mediterranean sea, intact nature, peaceful picturesque locations and specific therapeutic climate. The place is Losinj archipelago on the Croatian coast of the Adriatic. The island that was well known in the 19th century for its skillful naval captains and skilled builders of large merchant sailboats, was in 1892 proclaimed a health resort based on the decree of then Health Administration of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. In those days, the European aristocracy spent their winters in Valencia, Nice, Capri and Losinj. Average summer temperature on Losinj is 23,5°C, and the average winter temperature is 7,9°C. The differences between the minimum and maximum daily temperatures are very slight, air humidity is in average between 60 and 70 percent. The Losinj archipelago has over 1.018 registered herbal species. This number gains even more importance if you take into account that the entire British Isles have 1.200. The record holder in the Losinj archipelago is the island of Unije with more than 600 species on 17 square kilometers. The sea around Losinj has 262 algae species and practically all known types of fish living in shallow and medium deep waters of the Mediterranean. The Blue World Organization leads the oldest organized project of researching the large colonies of dolphins (tursiops truncatus) on the Mediterranean. The constant presence of these dolphins proves that our waters are extremely clean and the eco-system is in perfect balance.

With its 6.500 inhabitants, the town of Mali Losinj is the largest settlement on the Adriatic islands. It has all necessary infrastructure and public services. The town boasts a hospital and medical emergency service, public state authorities, a police station, a professional fire brigade, port authority, permanent sea and airport border crossing, kindergarten, elementary and comprehensive school, a theatre and a movie theatre, galleries, exhibitions and an archeological collection, many amateur sports clubs and civil associations. The island has a sport airfield with a 900 meter asphalt runway with permanent border crossing and customs office. It is 100 kilometers far from the Rijeka Airport, and the closest airport in the EU is Trieste, 230 km away. The island is connected to the mainland with two ferry lines.

Losinj is known as a health resort due to the climate suitable for treatment of respiratory diseases and allergies. The temperatures are moderate, the humidity and air pressure are stable, there are only three foggy days per year, and 2.580 hours of sunshine per year (similar to Palermo). Temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius are rare, and the tall pine forests and landward breeze wind make the summer afternoons very pleasant. Sea around Losinj is home to the last large group of dolphins (tursiops truncatus) in the Northern Adriatic, indicating that the sea is very clean. In 1892, then Austrian Ministry of Health, proclaimed Losinj one of the health resorts. The mild island climate has a therapeutic effect on treatment of allergic and respiratory diseases. There are many practices specializing in treatment of these diseases. The stay in such a favorable climate reduces medical problems and treats diseases.

The sea climate is characteristic for its extremely clean air and aerosols from the sea. The sea air is a key element of the sea climate. The concentration of aerosols in the air is particularly high on the waterfront, on the beach. The hotels also offer adequate conditions for relaxation on the sea.
